• Evaluating a Credit Repair Business

There are far too many controversies related to the credit repair business to disregard it. The fact is, the reason that so many of those who need credit help fails to seek it, is the bad name associated with the credit repair industry.

At the same time, it would be unfair to say that all those who repair credit are dishonest. You will also find professionals of high repute who will work very hard to fix your credit and improve your credit worthiness. The question is how to go about finding which companies are reputable and how to steer clear of the ripoff artists who victimize consumers.

Contrary to the common wisdom, detecting a less-than-honest credit “professional” is not that difficult. The first warning sign is if the credit company purports to improve your credit in a very short time

Since your credit score is calculated on the basis of your financial history, it’s just not possible to hurry along the process in your favor. If you hear a credit repair business tells you they can perform what you know is not possible, you should “dump” them, as you can be sure they are not to be trusted!

Also watch out for these other signs that a company is fraudulent. The fraudulent companies, most always, will ask for their entire fees up front.

Federal law demands that the fees charged by any credit agency be charged only after the services have been rendered. Regardless of how desperate you may be to improve your credit, you need not pay the complete fees in advance.

A fraudulent credit repair business will not hesitate to repair credit by using methods that are illegal. In fact, they will suggest that you adopt such ways and talk you into thinking it’s OK to do so, since they have somebody on the “inside” in the credit bureaus who can cover up for them and you.

Don’t ever fall prey to such false promises! Make sure you never accept any tactics in order to improve your credit unless it’s 100 percent legal. Irregardless of how bad your problems are, they will multiply if you’re caught using illegal means to relieve them.

If illegal means are used to improve your credit, you are the person primarily responsible; thus you could end up being prosecuted if caught in illegal activity. Taking this into account, it’s just not worth the trouble!

Another simple way to ascertain if the credit repair business you chose is honest, is to ask them to help you understand more about repairing credit. A trustworthy company will be more than happy to provide you counseling and “hand holding” in your endeavor to become more knowledgeable in regard to repairing credit.

A trustworthy business will take the role of a facilitator, while a dishonest agency will be resentful and wary about sharing information related to fixing your credit.
