Does the Size of a Laptop Really Matter?
Posted on January 30th, 2010 No commentsThe question in mobile computing has become, “Does physical size really matter or is it more important to have a powerful workhorse computer that allows you to fit all your productivity software and save as many movies as possible on your computing device?” Another point here may be whether the smaller sizes are more useful or if the light-weight portability is the focal issue. I think the availability of different types of computers today lets us truly personalize our productivity machines into something that works for everyone and doesn’t always have to be standard for everyone.
The announcement of the new macbookair by Apple has really given us a choice with the size and what kind of laptop computer we haul around with us everyday. At less than 3 pounds and less than an inch thick, we don’t have to strain our shoulders every time we walk to class. It has a 13 inch display and a standard-size keyboard. Tell me where I can get it today! This is the very aspect I have been calling for.
When I first saw the advert for the MacBook Air with a slim, easy to handle computer coming out of that little brown envelope, I was simply in awe. Now, that’s the choice I’ve been seeking for so long. Now it doesn’t have to be a major accomplishment to take my laptop with me any longer! No extra bag that can weigh nearly as much as the laptop computer, no more grimacing, no longer taking up all that extra room! What a happy day!
The age old question of whether size is important is in front of us now and my answer, when it comes to a miniature computer is a reverberating, “yes, Yes, YES!” Size does matter as well as weight. For me and my mobile computer smaller is certainly better.
